Q: How old were you when you got started in the music industry?
A: I was 15 years old when I started my first band and we would perform in Tijuana, Mexico for free alcohol and $150 cash.
Q: What got you started making music?
A: Making music is in my blood. My father is one of Mexico’s top composers and writes arrangements for the best Bandas in the world.
His name is Ezequiel Paez.
Q: Who are some of the artists and musicians that you like to listen to?
A: I grew up listening to my parents’ music. Classic boleros and 70’s Mexican groups like Los Moonlights, Los Bukis, & Rigo Tovar. Later in my youth I was exposed to Bob Marley and Carlos Santana! Now I listen to Manu Chao, Sargento Garcia, and Cultura Profetica.
Q: What are some hobbies of yours that you do in your spare time?
A: In my spare time I raise my family and collect/trade/sell vintage clothing.
Q: How do you come up with new music? What is your inspiration?
A: New music is inspired by struggle, oppression and injustice. Also, just everyday life and everyday people. I like to inspire people with a conscious message behind the music.
Q: Which song that you have written is your favorite? And why? What is the meaning behind it?
A: One of my favorite B*Side songs is Movement from the Movement record. It explains the 5TH element: Nahui Ollin. I also love Nuestras Demandas off the Fire in The Youth record because it is an anthem for human rights.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is looking to get started in the music industry?
A: The music industry is the corrupt government that exploits the art of music. Use the industry as it uses you and be aware at all times.
Q: Were your family and friends supportive of your music and your choices to get into the music industry?
A: My family has always supported my music. There was no question about my destiny after I made a choice to pursue my dreams. Support comes from my grandparents, parents, and children. I feel very blessed for this.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
A: I see myself touring the world in the next few years. People are becoming more open to diversity and are respecting multicultural music. B*Side Players have been touring for 18 years and continue to unite people through music, culture, & love.
Q: What is the overall goal or dream that you want to achieve with your music?
A: The overall goal is to inspire minds, bodies, and souls through dance and music. I feel 100% satisfied and blessed with a humbled life of serving the people!
