Q: How old were you when you got started in the music industry?
A: I have been singing ever since I was a little girl but I got my first opportunity to sing on stage when I was eight at my school’s talent show. It was funny because I sang a Spanish song called, Como la Flor, from Selena Quintanilla and the audience was American and I had a standing ovation. I had so much fun!!!!
Q: What got you started making music?
A: I would watch Selena Quintanilla and Shakira on television or on CD’s my mom would buy me. When I would see them dancing, singing, and having such a fun time on stage, I wanted to try something fun too, and once I tried it, I knew that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, to be on stage.
Q: Who are some of the artists and musicians that you like to listen to?
A: I have a lot of favorite singers, but I think the ones that really inspire me are Shakira, Selena Quintanilla, Whitney Houston, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, and Beyoncé. They all entertain with their powerful voice and charisma; I hope I can meet them one day.
Q: What are some hobbies of yours that you do in your spare time?
A: Rather than singing I love to write fictional stories for children, write music, study for my school, read Nancy Drew Books, play with my chicken and cat, draw, and climb trees. I love to look out to the Earth and see the clouds, really anything that will take stress away from my life when I have some not just in my career but also in school.
Q: How do you come up with new music? What is your inspiration?
A: At first I think of a problem or a storyline to my song like about enjoying life, to chase your dreams, or even about losing someone you love. The melody is something that really just comes naturally. It could come when I am at the supermarket or at school.
Q: Which song that you have written is your favorite? And why? What is the meaning behind it?
A: I have many songs that I am working on right now but I think my favorite composition is the song called, Ya No Te Quiero, because it has been the first song I have shared with the public and it has brought me more viewers. What this song has that means a lot to me is because it was the first song I composed when I was eight years old while watching Selena The Movie. The song came naturally and I asked my dad to start finding the rhythm and tone to record it later on. Throughout the years I have finally finished the song and I have recorded it until now because my family and me thought that the song had a message for much older people than the age I had back then but eventually we got very excited and we couldn’t wait any longer.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is looking to get started in the music industry?
A: Well, above all to stay in school and continue to study. But, I think the most important thing to remember is to have confidence in yourself because confidence is what will motivate you to take challenges and if you don’t get the results you want than you won’t feel bad for yourself because you know that you are special in your own unique way. There is no other singer like you. You shine in your own way. You are special!
Q: Were your family and friends supportive of your music and your choices to get into the music industry?
A: Yes, my family and friends have always been on my side wherever I go. My mom and brother are the ones that make my music videos, my dad makes music to my songs, and my friends are always cheering me on. I don’t know where I would right now if it weren’t for them. I know that I am a lucky girl because not everyone in this world gets the support that they want in following their dreams.
Q: Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
A: I see myself as a professional singer having a fun time on stage bringing inspiration and happiness to families and people all over the world.
Q: What is the overall goal or dream that you want to achieve with your music?
A: I want to record my music and make new CD’s and with the money I’ll make, I’ll use it to make a school for children who don’t have an education and to teach them academic activities and music because I think that music is something that allows them to have fun and brighten up their lives.
